Description
28-34 Adelaide Street is a planned terrace of small houses built in the mid-19th century, designed by John Foulston. The houses are finished in stucco or render, with dry slate and asbestos slate roofs that feature projecting eaves and brick end stacks. Each house has a double-depth plan, consisting of one room at the front and an entrance on the left side. They are two storeys tall, with each house having a two-window range and a doorway on the left. Nos. 31, 32, and 33 retain their original twelve-pane hornless sash windows, while No. 34 has had its glazing bars removed; the other windows are late 20th-century replacements. All houses have overlights, most of which include margin panes, and original panelled doors.
The interior has not been inspected but is likely to have original features of interest. This terrace is a rare example of a planned group by Foulston, showcasing a simpler version of his architectural style found in his work around Hooe.
