Description
The Barbican Gallery is a warehouse located on the wharf in Plymouth, likely built in the 18th century. It features a stucco front with dressed Plymouth limestone piers on either side of the central bay and has a fairly steep dry slate hipped roof. The building has a shallow-depth plan and stands three storeys high with a three-bay front that includes end pilasters. The windows and doors are from the 20th century, with the upper floors featuring 2-light 4-pane casements. The ground floor has openings on the left and right with segmental arches; there is a window to the left and a pair of glazed doors to the right, along with a later doorway with a glazed door at the far right. The central bay contains former loading doorways above the doorway and features a large rotatable iron hoist bracket with roundel bracing on the upper floor, hinged from the right-hand pier. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to retain its original floor and roof structures.
