Description
Two small cottages, dating from the 17th century, are located on the north side of Barbican Road in Plympton St Maurice. The cottages are built on a probable rubble base, with rendering covering the exterior and a slate-hung gable at the rear. They have steep slate roofs, featuring two dormer windows—one gabled and one hipped. A rendered stack in two stages is present on the front left, with a second rendered stack on the right. The plan is of shallow depth.
The cottages are two storeys high, with an additional attic space, and feature a three-window front that curves slightly. The windows are largely replacements from the 20th century, although they are designed to resemble earlier styles: a 12-pane sash window is on the first floor to the left, while transomed casements are present to the right of centre and on the right. Ground-floor windows consist of a wide two-light casement on the left and a wide three-light casement on the right, all with glazing bars. A single wide opening accommodates two doorways, fitted with 20th-century ledged doors. The interior has not been inspected.
