Description
No. 20 Greenhill Road is a cottage dating from the 16th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The exterior is rendered, and it features a thatched roof with two ridge chimneys and a very large off-center chimney on the left. The building is divided into two parts, with one and two windows; the 20th-century leaded casements have attached shutters. The left-hand bay is set back, and there is a porch in the angle, along with a large buttress that houses a bread oven, aligned with the chimney.
Inside, the entry is off a passage next to a very large fireplace that has a shelf. There are two principal ground floor rooms separated by framed partitions, which include a low doorway that has been blocked, situated between two jowled posts. The inner room features very heavy joists, and there is evidence of a winder staircase opposite the fireplace.
