Description
The former Sandford Station, built in 1869, is a Grade II listed building that originally served as offices and was designed by Francis Fox, the engineer for the Bristol and Exeter Railway Company. The structure is constructed from snecked rubble with free stone dressings and features plain clay tiles, some of which are scalloped, along with crested ridge tiles. The building has a T-shaped plan that includes a waiting room, booking hall, lavatories, and ancillary offices. It is one storey high with a loft. The windows and doors are set in segmental headed openings, primarily beneath three large gables that showcase very ornate bargeboards. The lean-to canopy that once extended to the platform is now missing.
