Description
Goblin Combe Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates from the late 15th or early 16th century, with alterations primarily from the 17th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of rubble and features a painted double Roman tiled roof with a ridge and gable stack, along with a pantiled rear wing. The building has a former through passage and is laid out in an L-plan, formed by the rear former dairy wing.
The north elevation is 1 and a half storeys tall and has two windows. On the ground floor, there are two 3-light metal casements with timber lintels and hood moulds, and a blocked door to the right of the ridge stack. Above, there are two small gables, each containing a similar 2-light casement. The left return features a small single light at ground floor and a similar 2-light casement above. Attached to the left is a 1 and a half storey rear wing, which has a 3-light casement at ground floor and a 4-pane light under the eaves.
At the rear of the main range, there is a 2-light casement at ground floor and a 3-light above, both with timber lintels, along with a small gable above. To the right, there is a studded door with raised fillets. A single storey 20th-century lean-to in the angle of the L-plan includes a 3-light casement and a door, linking to a former separate single storey outhouse that has a 2-light casement on the side and a 6-pane light at the gable end. The rear gable end of the former dairy wing features a half-glazed door and a 2-light casement above.
Inside, the door to the dairy has ventilation slits and a plain frame. The main range has a 3-room plan, with the end room to the east showcasing chamfered and stopped beams, and a chamfered lintel over the fireplace with a bar and run-out stops. A round-headed door to the right leads to a newel stair with a blocked stair light. The central room has a framed ceiling in two panels, deep-chamfered beams, and a similar lintel over the fireplace, along with a studded door with raised battens in a moulded frame. On the first floor, the principal beams over the central room have curved feet, while the rest of the roof structure is not visible. A mummified cat is said to have been found over the south door.
