Description

No. 82 Blacknoll is a detached house dating from the 18th century. It is a small cottage of a two-room plan, constructed with plastered cob walls, which have been patched in brick, and covered by a thatched roof. A brick stack is present. The house is single-storey with an attic. A porch with a corrugated asbestos roof and a ledged door provides access. The ground floor features one metal window, and the attic has a half-dormer window with horizontally sliding sashes and glazing bars. Corrugated iron lean-tos are attached to each end of the building, each featuring a ledged door. The main ground floor room contains a large, open fireplace with a timber lintel. The cottage remains largely unaltered. Nos 82 and 83 Blacknoll represent the two remaining houses, demonstrating 18th-century development on the south edge of Winfrith Heath. Originally, each comprised a cottage and garden, with a paddock. Other cottages in the area have since been demolished or rebuilt.
