Description

Nos. 20, 21 and 22, High Street, form a group of cottages dating back to the 17th century, likely originating as a single house. No. 20, known as Cobbler's Cottage, has walls constructed of both stone and plastered cob, with a thatched roof and a brick stack. The building is one storey high with attics. The front features a modern ledged door with a glass panel, two horizontally sliding sash windows with glazing bars on the ground floor, and a half-dormer attic window with horizontally sliding sashes and glazing bars. A weatherboarded lean-to extends from the north end, featuring a catslide roof. A rear lean-to is built of flint and brick with an asbestos roof. The interior has been modernised. No. 21 is constructed with walls of brick and stone raised in plastered cob, topped with a thatched roof and a brick stack. It is also one storey high with attics. It has a ledged door, a casement window and a horizontally sliding sash window with glazing bars on the ground floor. The attic contains two half-dormers with casement windows and glazing bars. The roof retains a jointed cruck truss. No. 22, Tranquility Cottage, has flint and brick colourwashed walls raised in plastered cob, and a thatched roof with a brick stack. It is one storey high with attics. The front incorporates a part-glazed ledged door, a horizontally sliding sash window with glazing bars and a fixed window on the ground floor.
