Description
Anchor Farmhouse is a detached farmhouse dating from the 17th century, which underwent significant repairs in the late 19th century. The building features original rubble-stone walls that are rendered, along with coursed dressed stone walls. It has clay-tile roofs with stone gable copings and brick stacks at the gable ends. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has three windows on the front, which include three-light stone mullions with labels above and two-light mullions on the first floor. The wood casements are fitted with glazing bars.
The front door is centrally located and has stone jambs, featuring a panelled design with four top lights, dating from the 19th century. The porch is supported by octagonal stone columns and has a flat entablature, also from the 19th century. At the rear, there are two ranges with a small yard in between. The west range includes a two-light casement and a loft door above, while the east range has three-light stone mullions. Both ranges feature three-light stone mullions on their gable ends, and there is a pentice-roofed outshut on the east gable wall. Overall, Anchor Farmhouse is a substantial U-plan farmhouse.
