Description
No. 52 Fleet Street is an attached house that was formerly Bradford's Coal Office, built around 1700. The building features coursed lias stone walls and a slate roof with brick stacks located on both the left and right sides, set back from the gable. It has two storeys and four closely set windows, which are fitted with two-light stone mullions that have ovolos but no labels or cills. The windows are cast-iron casements. The front door is positioned to the left of centre and is framed by a doorway with plain stone pilasters that have moulded bases and capitals, topped with a plain open pediment. The front door itself is made of wood and has nine glass panels, dating from the 20th century.
Inside, the right-hand room features a fireplace with stone jambs and a flat stone arch made up of twelve voussoirs, dating from the 18th century. The ceiling beams have a slight chamfer. The cellar and staircase doors are part of a continuous stretch of fielded panelling. The staircase has turned balusters and a wavy-moulded handrail, while the window shutters also feature fielded panelling.
