Description

Pilsdon Manor, also known as The Pilsdon Community, is a manor house dating from the mid-17th century. It features dressed stone walls and a slate roof with stone gable copings. The building has brick stacks located at the left-hand gable, left of centre, and the right-hand gable. It stands two storeys high with attics and has six windows. The ground floor is adorned with four-light stone mullion windows arranged in pairs, each with central transoms, and a continuous label above them. The first floor has three-light stone mullions with central transoms, but no labels. Most of the windows have fixed glass lights, with a few modern metal casements.

The front door, positioned to the right of centre, has a square chamfered head and jambs, with a raised label above. The door itself, dating from the 19th century, features four glass lights. At the rear, there is an original continuous outshut of service rooms, which is interrupted by a gabled stairwell at the centre. The layout of the house is three units with a narrow transverse hall. Inside, there are three large fireplaces, including a stone fireplace in the parlour that has moulded jambs and a Tudor arch set in a square head, dating from the 17th century. Upstairs, remnants of early 17th-century panelling can be found. The parlour on the ground floor features a compartmented plaster ceiling with vine-scroll ornamentation, dating from the 18th century.
