Description
Brook House is a house from the mid-18th century, likely designed by Francis Cartwright for his own use. It features blue header-bond brickwork with red brick dressings and has a tiled roof with end brick stacks. The building is symmetrical, standing two storeys tall with attics and comprising five bays. The ground floor has 12-pane sash windows, while the upper floor has 9-pane sash windows, all set in stone surrounds with triple keystones. The central entrance boasts a pilastered doorcase with an open pedimental hood supported by carved double-scroll consoles, leading to a panelled, part-glazed door.
Inside, notable features include an 18th-century oak staircase with turned balusters, a moulded handrail, and newels designed as Tuscan columns. The main ground floor rooms are adorned with moulded plaster cornices, and there are 19th-century fireplace surrounds.
