Description
This description is for a group of three table tombs located to the east of Holy Rood Church in Buckland Newton. The first tomb, dedicated to Richard Childes and dated 1627, is made of stone and features a flat, cyma moulded top. The second tomb, situated 3 meters east of the first, commemorates Rev James Venables and is likely from around 1860, designed in the style of a Hellenistic altar. The third tomb is immediately to the north of the second and is probably from the early 18th century. It has a flat, moulded top with rounded ends; one end displays a cartouche while the other features a skull and crossbones with bats' wings. The south panel of this tomb is obscured, and the paint on the north side has fallen away.
