Description
This listing describes a group of monuments located immediately south of the tower of the Parish Church in Moreton Steeple. The group includes four table tombs, two raised coffin lid monuments, and five stone coffin lids.
Three of the table tombs, which are adjacent to the tower, commemorate members of the Bond family and are dated 1835, 1821, and 1823. The first tomb is designed in a Gothic style, while the other two are in a classical style. A fourth table tomb, also in classical style, is dedicated to Leonora Bullen and is dated 1836, located south of the Bond family tombs.
Between the first group of table tombs and the fourth, there are two raised coffin lid monuments for members of the Bond family, dated 1842 and 1844. To the east of these, there are five stone coffin lids, one of which is dated 1795, while the others are undated and may be medieval in origin, according to the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England. This collection of monuments is considered a significant group.
