Description
The Church of St Mark, along with the gate-piers and wall immediately to the east, was built between 1869 and 1870 by architects Hicks and Crickmay. It features walls and a roof made of Purbeck Stone. The church consists of a nave and chancel, a north chapel and organ chamber, and a south porch that includes a modern vestry on the west side. An open bell-cote is positioned over the chancel arch. The design is simple Gothic, characterized by paired lancet windows in the nave, triple lancets in the east wall, and five grouped lancets in the west wall. Inside, the walls are plastered, and there are pine scissor-braced roof trusses. The stone font, which dates back to 1663, comes from the Parish Church and is set on a 19th-century base. The boundary wall is also made of Purbeck Stone and features simple stone gate piers along with modern iron gates.
