Description
No. 3 Cheap Street is a two-storey house, likely dating from the 16th century. The building's frontage projects forward, and the return wall facing down Cheap Street features a gable and a small bowed shop window. The first floor overhangs and is supported by curved braces. At the corner, there is an original post that is partly hidden by a Georgian pilaster. On the west side, the first floor has a new pebble-dash finish and wooden casements. The ground floor is made of plastered stone and includes a Georgian paired sash window and a later splayed shop window. The plaintile roof was replaced in 1949 due to blast damage. This building is significant for its historic structure and its contribution to the group value of the area. Nos. 1 to 15 (odd) form a group with the George Hotel in Higher Cheap Street.
