Description

This is a detached cottage, originally a lodge to Ilsington House. It dates from 1869, as indicated by a plaque. The building is constructed of brick walls with burnt headers, stone dressings, and quoins, and has a slate roof with bargeboards to the gables. It has a T-shaped plan and two brick stacks, one at the right end and one near the left end.

The left-hand side features a projecting gabled wing with a canted bay window on the ground floor. This bay window has a battlemented parapet and four round-headed lights with stone mullions, arches, and keystones, containing sashes with glazing bars. Above this, on the first floor, is a two-light window of similar detail. Bracketed cills are present. To the right of the gable is a wing set back from the main body of the building. A porch with a battlemented parapet sits in the angle between the wings. It has a panelled door with a fanlight, placed within a round-arched opening with stone jambs, arch, and keystone. A round-arched window with sashes and glazing bars is incorporated into the return wall. The right wing contains a two-light window on the ground floor, consistent with the detail of the gable and first floor windows. On the first floor of this wing, there is one two-light window and one single-light window, both square-headed, with stone surrounds, bracketed cills, and sashes with glazing bars.

At the rear is a small, detached outbuilding, likely originally a wash-house, constructed in matching materials. It is a single-storey structure, featuring an octagonal chimney shaft.
