Description
Eagle House is an early to mid 18th century detached house located on White Cliff Mill Street. It features a two-storey front with five windows, constructed of typical brickwork. The facade is divided into three bays by brick pilasters, with the central bay adorned with an open pediment. A heavily enriched modillion cornice crowns the building, and there are two pedimented dormers above. The sash windows are fitted with wide glazing bars and feature triple keystones. The central first-floor window is round-headed and has a moulded archivolt.
The front of the house has had a porch and a square bay added at ground level. The back wing dates from the early 19th century. Although the ground floor has undergone significant alterations to accommodate a glove factory, some original panelling remains on the south and west walls of the southernmost ground floor room. A small, elegant Georgian staircase with turned balusters leads up to the attic, and there are wall cupboards and panelled doors throughout the house.
