Description
Shade House Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse with an addition dated 1842 and further 20th-century alterations. The building features coursed rubble walls topped with a slate, gable-ended roof. There is a dentilled stack on the left end and a brick stack rising from the eaves on the right. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a four-window range on the original part.
On the ground floor to the left, there is a four-light, hollow chamfered stone mullioned window with a returned label, and a similar window without a label above it. Moving from left to right on the ground floor, there is a two-light wooden casement with glazing bars, a two-light hollow chamfered stone mullioned window, and a 20th-century replacement stone mullioned window. To the right, there is a 20th-century reconstituted stone extension.
At the rear, there is a 19th-century outshut made of probably reused stone, featuring 20th-century windows. This outshut has an inscription that reads, "Wm Lodder Rebuilt This House In the Year 1842." Inside, an upstairs room is said to have a fireplace with a moulded, four-centred head.
