Description
Yew Tree Cottage is a pair of cottages that have been combined into a single house. The cottage to the south-east dates from the 17th century or early 18th century and was rebuilt in the 19th century, while the cottage to the north-east is from the late 18th century. The exterior features a mix of roughcast, ashlar, and rubble, all of which have been whitewashed. The roof is partly thatched and partly slated, with a brick stack located between the two cottages. The building is two storeys high and has a five-window range. Most of the windows are 19th-century, two-light cast-iron casements with glazing bars, although part of the later range has 20th-century timber replacements. The later cottage includes a central 20th-century glazed door set beneath a moulded stone lintel, while the earlier cottage features a part-glazed, panelled door that is said to have been reset from a house in Wimborne.
Inside, there are some chamfered beams and an open fireplace with a segmental chamfered timber bressummer that has cyma stops. Some internal doors retain their original wrought-iron hinges and fittings. It is suggested that the late 18th-century range may have been built using materials salvaged from Eastbury House, which was largely demolished in 1775.
