Description

The Chantry is a 17th-century house located in Iwerne Minster. It is constructed of banded flint and ashlar with a stone slate roof, featuring paired diagonally set brick stacks to the right gable and centre of the building. The house presents a near-symmetrical facade with three storeys and attic space. A central, three-storey projecting porch houses the staircase. The windows are mainly 2 and 3 light stone mullioned windows with returned labels and leaded lights; the first floor left bay has a large 16-pane sash. A central plank door is also protected by a returned label.

The internal layout follows a lobby entrance plan, with two rooms on each floor arranged around a central stack. Original features include an oak staircase with closed strings, turned and enriched newel posts, turned balusters, and moulded handrails. The first floor contains two 17th-century stone fireplace surrounds, displaying chamfered 4-centred heads and continuous jambs with shaped stops.
