Description
Sunnyside is a semi-detached pair of houses dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. The buildings are constructed of brick, with rendering except for the road front of No. 14, and feature a slate roof. They are set back and elevated from the sea front, stepping down the slope, with three storeys facing the road and four storeys facing the sea.
The sea front has two flat-roofed dormers above two sets of two plain sash windows, and two-storey canted oriel windows with flat roofs and modillion cornices. No. 14 has plain sashes, while No. 16 features plain sashes with segmental heads and panelled skirts. Each end of the pair has a later low wing. The hipped low-pitch roof, which has a central ridge stack, is concealed behind a parapet with a blocking course and cornice that extends to the street front.
On the Greenhill front, No. 14 is brick and No. 16 is rendered, each displaying a 12-pane sash window with a slight segmental head at every level. In the outer bay of each house, there is a tall 15-pane staircase sash window. No. 14 includes a one-storey gabled wing with a 20th-century door, while No. 16 has a deep two-storey wing featuring a 12-pane sash window above a wide opening with garage doors. The interior has not been inspected.
