Description
Burley, Silver Street, built in 1832, is a Grade II listed building that was originally known as Burley and The Old Vicarage, formerly No 2 Burley Villas, constructed as a pair. The building is two stories high with a shallow pitched hipped slate roof and an eaves bracket cornice. The front is finished in stucco and features three window bays facing east. It has incised pilasters decorated with a Greek key motif. The upper sash windows retain their glazing bars, while the lower French casements are adorned with contemporary tracery and have bottom panels enriched with the Greek key motif. There is a verandah supported by trellised iron columns and a canopy on both the ground and first floors. The main entrance is located on the north front. The interior has seen little alteration, although a chapel was added at the south end, which has since been converted into a kitchen. This building is part of a group that includes The Little Place, the north-east boundary wall, Rosehill, the garden wall to Burley, the Old Vicarage, the former stable block, the garden wall to Burley and Old Vicarage, West Hill, the garden wall, the Roman Catholic Church of St Michael and St George, and the Dorset Hotel on Pound Road.
