Description
No 12 on West Street is an 18th-century building constructed of chequer brick with a pitched tile roof and stone slates above the eaves. It features brick gable coping and chequer brick stacks. The building has two storeys and attics, with a brick modillion eaves cornice. On the first floor, there are three flush-framed cased sash windows with glazing bars. The ground floor includes an oblong bay window with sashes and glazing bars, along with a double-bowed shopfront that also has glazing bars and a full entablature framed by reeded pilasters. There are two doors; the central one is modern, while the left-hand door has four flush panels. Both doors are flanked by reeded pilasters with paterae capitals that support flat hoods, which are concave in plan and continue the entablatures over the shop windows. The Red Lion Hotel and Nos 2 to 12 (even) form a group.
