Description
The Old Rectory and Swanwic House, located on Kings Road, is now divided into two houses. The oldest part of the building dates back to the mid-17th century, with expansions made in the 18th and early 19th centuries, along with various later lean-to additions. The structure features Purbeck Stone walls and roofs, and the original layout is hard to determine due to these successive changes. The building has two storeys and attics, with gabled roofs, some of which have half-hips. It includes a mix of double-hung sash windows and casements. The entrance door to The Old Rectory is notable for its carved stone head, dated July 10, 1667, with the initials WR, likely representing William Rose, the Rector at that time and possibly the builder of the house. Adjacent to this is a fragment of medieval window tracery, which may have been re-set. The interior has been significantly altered.
