Description
Little Whitemoor Farm is a cottage dating from the 16th century or earlier, with alterations made in the 18th century and the roof replaced in 1880. The walls are of rubble brick and rendered, and the roof is covered in wooden shingles with gable ends. There is a rendered end stack to the right side of the building and a stack running partway down the rear left gable. A catslide roof slopes at the rear. A single-storey extension adjoins the right side. The cottage likely began as a longhouse, originally featuring an upper-end stack.
The main range is single-storey and a half, with a three-window arrangement. On the ground floor, the left window is a horizontally sliding sash with glazing bars. The ground floor window to the right is likely from the 19th century and is a three-light casement with glazing bars. Above these windows are two dormers, each containing a two-light casement with horizontal glazing bars. A door is located to the right of the centre of the building.
Inside, a cruck-truss is held together with pegged joints, and the ceiling features stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops. A fireplace is present with a chamfered bressumer. The building is documented in "RCHM, Dorset, vol III," page 109, number 28, and a manuscript report by R Machin, from Bristol University in 1977, provides further information.
