Description
King Charles Cottage is an attached cottage dating from around 1800, with a core that dates back to the 16th or 17th century. It features rubble stone walls and large quoins on the left side. The roof is made of Roman tiles and has stone gable-coping on the left. There is one rendered stack on the left side of the building. The cottage is two storeys high and has two windows, which are three-light 20th-century wooden casements with glazing bars and wooden lintels. The front door, located on the right side at ground level, is of plank and muntin style, studded, and has a wooden lintel above, also from the 20th century. A stone tablet on the building notes, "King Charles II slept here September 23-24 1651. Erected April 4th 1902." Inside, the cottage has mid-chamfered ceiling beams, and the roof structure consists of jointed crucks with large collar beams, dating from the 16th or 17th century.
