Description

Crabb Cottage and the former cart shed date from the late 16th to early 17th century. The building features walls made of stone, brick, and cob, topped with a thatched roof and a brick chimney. It is one storey high with attics. The current layout has one room on each floor, although it may have originally extended further to the south. The south wall was rebuilt in brick during the 18th or 19th century. The north gable wall, which contains the chimney, is constructed in a chequer pattern of brick and stone. On the east wall, the ground floor has one casement window with a central glazing bar, while the attic features a dormer with casements. The entrance is located in the south wall and consists of a part-glazed door. The ground floor includes two casement windows with glazing bars, and the attic has two similar windows in the gable. The main room on the ground floor has a large open fireplace with a timber lintel and a bread oven. There are two deeply chamfered ceiling beams with cyma stops. To the west of the house is a former cart shed, which is single-storeyed with cob walls and a thatched roof. This cart shed is now incorporated into the house and connected by a flat-roofed lobby. It is reputed to have been the former Priest's House.
