Description

This is a farmhouse, likely dating back to the 16th century or earlier, though largely rebuilt in the 17th century. It is constructed from squared, coursed rubble and has a gable-ended tiled roof with brick stacks at each end. The house is two storeys tall with an attic, and has a symmetrical four-window front. The ground floor has outer bays featuring four-light stone mullioned windows with ovolo moulding, while a similar two-light window is centrally positioned to the right. A door is located centrally to the left. A continuous string course runs along the front, stepping up over the window and door heads. The upper floor has four three-light wooden mullioned windows with leaded lights. A two-light stone mullioned window illuminates the staircase at a mezzanine level.

Inside, the house retains moulded (hollow chamfer and ogee) and deep chamfered ceiling beams and wall plates. The south room’s ceiling features intersecting beams forming a four-panelled design. There are also numerous plank and muntin partitions. The north room has an open fireplace, alongside a newel staircase. Original 17th-century balusters and a rail are present. The roof is a smoke-blackened collar truss design with two sets of purlins and curved wind bracing. It appears older than the rest of the house, potentially indicating an earlier structure either reset or suggesting a substantial 17th-century rebuilding.

Attached to the farmhouse is a timber-framed barn with weatherboarding and a half-hipped tiled roof. This barn has been significantly modernised in the 20th century and now features modern casements.
