Description

The gateway or south front to the former almshouses was originally part of a building constructed in 1736 to replace those destroyed by fire. The almshouses have since been rebuilt elsewhere. This front is made of the same greenish stone as the nearby church. It features a pedimented gable with a round window. The lower storey has an arcade with three bays, where the center arch is semi-circular and the side arches are segmental. Above the segmental arches are sunk panels with now illegible inscriptions, along with projecting imposts and keystones. The pavement is made of knapped flint. The gateway and the nearby church form a group.
