Description
Granville House, located at 25 West Street, is a mid-18th century building that now serves as a post office. It is constructed of red brick with an ashlar plinth, quoins, and keystones. The central first-floor window features a rusticated surround, and the building has a modillion eaves cornice, with panels on the parapet and a balustrade in the central panel. The structure is two storeys tall and has a parapet, with five ranges of sash windows that include glazing bars. The doorway, added between 1830 and 1840, is adorned with Greek Doric columns and a full entablature, leading to a door with a fanlight and incised line ornament on the reveals and panels. Although the interior was gutted when it was converted into a post office, a fine iron staircase balustrade remains preserved in the Museum. Granville House is part of a group that includes Nos 7 to 25 (odd).
