Description
The walls of the Quaker Burial Ground are Grade II listed and were originally part of the garden of the almshouses. They have been used for Quaker burials since 1811.
These walls are made of coursed cut and squared Forest Marble limestone, along with random limestone rubble. They enclose a rectangular area that measures 28 meters from west to east and 17 meters from north to south. The walls include sections of earlier walling along the north side and part of the west side. The corners at the south-west, south-east, and north-east are ramped, and there is a string course along the west, south, and east sides. Access to the burial ground is through a semi-circular arched pedestrian gateway in the west wall, which still has its wooden door frame, although the door itself is missing.
