Description

The Orchard is a house dating back to the 16th century, with a likely addition of a rear wing in the 17th century. It is constructed of rubble walls and has a thatched roof to the original main range, and a half-hipped, tiled roof to the rear wing. Stone chimney stacks are located on the left gable and along part of the ridge, with a brick chimney stack rising from the right eaves. Originally designed with an end hall plan, the house comprises a two-bay hall separated from a two-room service block by a through passage. The house currently has approximately a four-window front. Windows are twentieth-century casements with leaded lights, set beneath wooden lintels. A porch with a sloping roof provides entrance. Internal features retain original plank and muntin partitions, an end newel staircase, and original doorways.
