Description

Clover Cottage and Hartnell’s Farmhouse is an early 17th-century farmhouse with an attached cottage, located on the east side of Moreton Road in Ower Moigne. The building was originally listed as a pair of cottages, situated approximately 170 yards north of West Farmhouse. It has rubblestone walls accentuated by brick dressings and is topped with a thatched roof, featuring a gable end at the north and a steep hip at the south. Brick stacks are positioned at the gable end, along the ridge to the right of centre, and on the right-hand end wall. The farmhouse section, No. 14, has 3 windows with 3-light wood casements, glazing-bars, wood sills, and cambered brick arches. Two eyebrow dormer windows are also present. The original front door was centrally located and is round-headed, now housing a 19th-century plank door. A brick porch with a gabled slate roof has been added. A later outshut provides the current rear entrance. The attached cottage, Clover Cottage, features irregular 20th-century windows and a 3-light eyebrow dormer. The cottage’s door, positioned centrally, is recessed-panelled with two top lights and a 19th-century design, sheltered by a 20th-century thatched porch canopy supported by two wood posts.
