Description

Tarrant Keyneston War Memorial stands on the north side of Main Street in Tarrant Keyneston. It is a 3-metre high memorial consisting of a Latin cross set upon a tapered, polygonal shaft. This sits atop a square plinth, which itself rests on a three-stepped base. The front elevation of the plinth bears an inscription from the First World War, carved in Latin and English, dedicating the memorial “To the Glory of God and in Honourable Memory of the Undermentioned Men of this Parish who Fell in the Great War 1914 – 1918,” followed by a list of names and the phrase “Their Name Liveth for Evermore.” A Second World War inscription, again listing names of the fallen, has been added to the rear elevation, accompanied by the dates 1939 – 1945.
