Description

Collamoor Head is a small house dating from the early 19th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. The ground storey is of rendered and painted stone rubble, while the upper storey is of cob. It has a slate roof with gable ends, and internal gable end chimney stacks, with the right-hand stack rebuilt. The house has a double-depth plan, featuring a central lobby entrance and straight staircase rising from the lobby, positioned between the two principal front rooms, which are heated by gable end stacks. Behind the front rooms are two shallow service rooms, and an outshot behind the left-hand room is likely a later addition. There is a lean-to outbuilding on the right-hand side, possibly originally integral, with a loft above accessed by external stairs. This outbuilding was converted into additional living space in the 20th century. The front facade is symmetrical with two windows. It has small, early 19th-century 12-pane sashes; the ground floor window on the right has been replaced with a 20th-century casement in the original opening. The central front door is an early 19th-century six-panel door with glazed top and bottom panels, and it is protected by a late 19th to early 20th-century glazed porch with shaped bargeboards. A two-storey lean-to adjoins the right-hand end, featuring small 20th-century casements on its front-facing end, and internal stone stairs on the left side. The rear of the property has three early 19th-century two-light casements with glazing bars on the first floor, and a single-storey lean-to outshot, extended to the left in the 20th century. Internally, the straight staircase rises from the central front lobby, featuring a stick balustrade at the top and turned newels. The partition between the front right-hand room and the room behind has been removed.
