Description

Haven Cottage is a house that forms part of a pair of attached houses, dating from the late 17th century, with later additions from the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed from stone rubble and cob, which is rendered, roughcast, and painted. The roof is thatched with gable ends. There is a gable end stack on the right with a rendered shaft, while a former stack on the left has been removed. The rear outshut features a slurried slate roof.

The layout consists of a two-room and cross passage plan, with a slightly larger room on the right and a smaller room on the left, both heated by end stacks. There is a single-storey 19th-century outshut located behind the passage and the right room.

The exterior is two storeys high with an asymmetrical two-window front. The central entrance is a 20th-century door, flanked by two 20th-century casements with ten panes each. The first floor has two smaller 19th-century casements, each with two lights and eight panes. The right end has had the render removed and features a single light in the outshut, along with a single-storey flat-roofed 20th-century addition. At the rear, the outshut includes a 20th-century casement with four panes and a half-glazed door, accompanied by a 20th-century lean-to on the right.

Inside, the right room has 19th-century ceiling beams and a 20th-century fireplace, while the left room features 19th-century moulded beams and a blocked fireplace. A straight stair is located in the passage. The left room would have originally served as the parlour, and the right room as the kitchen. On the first floor, the rooms are ceiled, and there is no access to the roof structure.
