Description
The cross shaft located immediately south of St Mary's Church is likely from the 10th or 11th century. It is a broken shaft made of granite, standing about 8 feet high. The shaft is inscribed with very worn letters that read "Alroron Ulcui filtus, Alroron son of Ulcuus." It features Hiberno-Saxon plait-work and is slightly tapered at both the top and base, with a band around the middle. This cross shaft originally stood on the roadside at Biscovery, which is about a mile away.
