Description
The parterre walls at Tregrehan House are part of an Italianate formal garden, likely constructed between 1848 and 1850 by W Eden Nesfield, during the time the house was refronted for Colonel Edward Carlyon. These rubble walls feature granite copings and granite ashlar gate-piers at the gateway in the center of the east wall. The rectangular terrace in front of the house is enclosed by parterre walls on three sides. A round fountain is located near the south wall, which includes a polished turned shaft on a rectangular base and a lobed bowl at the top. The east wall possibly retains its original chamfered and braced wooden gate, with stick shafts or "balusters" more closely set in the lower half. This structure is part of an important group of buildings associated with Tregrehan House.
