Description
Dykes is a structure located approximately 100 meters north of Place Manor, built around 1850. It was originally a mill pond dam and serves as the entrance for a stream culvert at the head of a creek. The construction features slatestone with granite dressings and has a slightly curved shape. The north wall includes a round arch for the stream exit, made with granite voussoirs, and is flanked by pilaster piers with granite quoins that extend above the wall level. The retaining walls on either side of the piers are made of vertically set dry rubble, which has a noticeable batter leading to a continuous granite string at the base of the parapet level. The parapet wall is constructed of random rubble laid horizontally, topped with granite coping.
