Description
Place Barton Farmhouse and Cottage, also known as Barton Bothy, is a farmhouse and adjoining cottage that likely dates from the early 19th century. The building is constructed of slatestone rubble with a rendered front and features a scantle slate roof that slopes lower at the rear. The roof is half-hipped to the left, and there is a brick chimney over the external breast at the gable end on the right, along with a brick axial stack.
The farmhouse has a two-room double depth central stair plan, while the cottage has a one-room double depth plan. Both buildings are two storeys high. The farmhouse has a symmetrical front with three windows, while the cottage has a one-window front to the right. The farmhouse features a central doorway with a panelled door and overlight, set within a closed hipped-roofed porch, with the cottage door located to the left.
The ground floor of the farmhouse has 12-pane sash windows, and the first floor has 16-pane sash windows, all in their original openings with shallow arches. The cottage has openings at a lower level with small paned sashes at the rear. A large brick chimney is located on the rear wall of the farmhouse. The interior has not been inspected.
