Description

Brynn Mill is a house with an attached corn mill, dating from the early 19th century, with few later alterations. The house is constructed from granite rubble, with the upper storey made of cob and some brick. It features a slurried slate roof with ridge coping tiles and gable ends. The gable end stack on the left has been removed, while the right gable end has been rebuilt with an external brick stack. The rear slope of the roof is covered in corrugated asbestos. The mill, also made of granite rubble, has a slate roof with ridge coping tiles and gable ends.

The house has a two-room layout, with a central entrance leading into a kitchen on the right, which is heated by a gable end stack. The room on the left is also heated by a gable end stack. The attached mill, located on the left side, is two storeys high and has a one-room plan, with a loft at the upper level. A leat runs towards the front of the mill, at right angles to it, and drives an overshot wheel, which remains in place.

The house is two storeys tall with a two-window range. On the first floor, there are two 19th-century two-light casements, each with two panes per light. The ground floor features a blocked window on both the left and right sides, with a central four-panelled door that has a pitched slate hood above. The right side of the house has an external brick stack and a curved oven at the base. There is a single-storey corrugated iron lean-to attached to the right. The rear of the house includes a single nine-pane light at ground level on the right and a nine-pane sash window under the eaves on the left.

The mill, attached to the left side of the house, has a higher roof that extends beyond the front of the house. It features a door with a granite lintel on the right and a small window opening under the eaves on the left. The left side of the mill includes the wheel pit, which houses a cast iron wheel, and the leat runs away from the mill to the rear. There is also a corrugated iron shed attached to the rear of the mill.

The interior of the building was not accessible during the survey in July 1986, but it is believed to contain the remaining mill machinery.
