Description
The Royalton Mine engine house, located at SX 977617, is a late 19th-century structure featuring an engine house with an attached chimney. It is constructed of granite rubble and brick and has a rectangular plan. The engine house is designed for an inside beam engine, meaning there is no opening in the bob wall, and all machinery is contained within the building. The structure is roofless, with the gable end wall housing the chimney at one corner, which includes a small window opening at an upper level. The chimney has a circular plan, approximately 4 meters in diameter at the base, and tapers upwards. The lower stage of the chimney is made of granite rubble, while the upper stage and cornice are constructed of brick. The site was not fully accessible during the survey conducted in July 1986.
