Description
This building, along with its adjoining yard wall, is located approximately 70 metres north-west of Capstan in St Levan, Penberth Cove. It is a Grade II listed structure, originally built as fish cellars for pressing pilchards, and dates from the early to mid-19th century. The building is constructed from granite rubble with roughly-hewn dressings, featuring granite monolithic piers that support the open front.
The structure has a long rectangular plan with a seven-bay open front facing north-east. There is a wide doorway with a loading hatch above at the left-hand end. The exterior showcases a long, low open front with the roof's wall plate supported by six regularly spaced granite monolithic piers.
Inside, there is an overhanging ledge on the rear wall, which was used for the cantilever pressing beams. The right-hand end has a wooden floor. In front of the building, there is a cobbled yard enclosed by high rubble walls on the front and sides.
