Description
This building is a farm structure located immediately northwest of Merthen, dating from around the mid-19th century. It serves as a cattle shelter or a shed for carts and implements. The walls are made of shale rubble with granite dressings, and the roof is covered with grouted scantle slate, featuring gable ends and alternating red clay ridge tiles that are raised for ventilation.
The building has five bays and is open-fronted, supported by four square granite monolithic posts, which are not evenly spaced. The narrow bay on the left side has been infilled with a stone rubble wall. The two posts on the right are closely spaced, creating an entrance at the right end, which is partitioned off with concrete blocks. There is a loft doorway in the left gable end. The roof structure is made of nailed softwood with tie-beams that support floorboards for a hay loft.
