Description
Trepenpol is a house built around 1850 for Harvey and Co. It features stuccoed walls and a hipped 'L'-shaped concrete tile roof with projecting eaves. The house has an 'L'-shaped plan and includes a single-storey lean-to at the rear. The garden front has two rooms, with a larger principal reception room on the left. An entrance hall is located behind the right-hand room, leading to a stair hall at the rear middle and another reception room or study behind the entrance hall. The kitchen is situated in the lean-to at the rear left, which may be the original kitchen.
The exterior is two-storeys high, with a stuccoed plinth, rusticated quoins, and stucco architraves. The north garden front is symmetrical with three windows, featuring larger windows and rusticated surrounds for the three ground floor openings. The first-floor openings and those on the entrance front have plain stucco surrounds. The original windows are 12-pane hornless sashes. The west entrance front is also symmetrical with three windows, although the left ground floor window is a later addition. It has a central doorway with an original four-panel door and overlight with marginal panes. There is evidence of a former (likely glazed) porch and a later large conservatory, with original sashes except for the later opening.
Inside, the house retains a virtually complete interior with original partitions, an open well stair with an open string, ceiling cornices with carved trailing bands, panelled doors, and window shutters.
