Description

The Old Farmhouse at Treslay Farm is a disused farmhouse dating from the early to mid 17th century. It is constructed of stone rubble and features a slate roof with gable ends, along with a galvanised roof on the front wing to the left. The building has a granite and greenstone axial stack positioned to the left of centre and a projecting stone rubble end stack on the front wing.

The original layout of the farmhouse is uncertain, but it has a roughly 'L' shaped plan. The main range on the right consists of a two-room plan, with the larger room on the right heated by the axial stack. Originally, there was a stair projection at the rear near the fireplace, but this has been altered; in the 18th century, it was incorporated into a lean-to outshot at the rear. The left-hand room has been largely remodelled and partly rebuilt, now forming part of an outshot extension. There is also a wing projecting forward from the left-hand room, which is a one-room plan likely serving as the kitchen and heated by an end stack.

The exterior of the farmhouse is two storeys high with an asymmetrical front featuring one window. The gable end of the front wing is to the left, and the entrance is located in the main range near the angle with the front wing, accessed by a stone rubble ramp leading up to the first floor. The right side has a three-light casement window, with a two-light mullion window above it, although the mullion has been removed. There is a granite frame around a one-light window in the first floor of the right-hand gable end and another granite frame for a window in the rear outshot, which originally lit the stair projection.

Inside, the right-hand room of the main range includes a fireplace with a granite lintel and chamfered granite jambs. There is an entrance to the stair projection, which has been removed, featuring chamfered granite jambs with pyramid stops. The ceiling beams are chamfered and have complete stepped and ogee stops. A blocked first-floor fireplace from the 17th century can also be found. The roof structure was replaced in the 18th century, featuring halved, lap-jointed, and pegged apices, with the collars also replaced. The front wing on the left contains a large granite fireplace with a chamfered lintel and jambs.
