Description
This chest tomb, located approximately 25 meters southwest of the Church of Saint Mylor, was erected in 1862 for Edward Hoblyn and his family. It is constructed from dressed marble freestone and slate and has a square plan. The tomb features a foundation base with a double panelled 'dado' plinth that includes two wide fielded panels with concave corners on each side. Above this, there are tall plain panels with attached wall monuments on the east and north sides, topped with a plain slate slab lid. The north monument includes a round medallion with a ramped base and a moulded scrolled cornice, which bears an incised inscription for Edward Hoblyn, who died in 1868 at the age of 85, and his wife Mary Hoblyn, who died in 1862 at the age of 79. The east side has a pair of headstone monuments with shaped heads and incised inscriptions for other family members.
