Description
There are two chest tombs located approximately 10 meters southwest of the Church of Saint Mylor. These tombs date from the early 19th century, with one featuring an addition from 1850. They are made of granite ashlar on the sides and have inscribed freestone lids. Both tombs are rectangular in shape.
One tomb is relatively simple and consists of two tiers, each with its own lid; the lower part may date back to the 18th century. It has a moulded cornice on the lid and an indecipherable incised inscription, but the east end features the initials A.C.C. and the date 1816.
The second tomb has an eroded lid that is possibly from the 18th century and is topped by a tall chest designed in a classical style. This chest has a chamfered plinth and base, with fielded dado panels that have concave corners. It also features tall panels with an incised key pattern and corner pilasters that support a pedimented cornice topped with an inverted cup lid finial. The east side of this chest has an incised inscription dedicated to Thomas Gillet Esq., who died in 1850 at the age of 87.
