4/226 2 chest tombs at approx 10m south west of Church of Saint Mylor

GV II

2 chest tombs. Circa early C19 and one with 1850 addition. Granite ashlar sides and inscribed freestone lids. Both chests are rectangular-on-plan. One chest is simple but of 2 tiers, each tier with its own lid. (The lower part may be C18). Moulded cornice to lid and indecipherable incised inscription, but east end has: A.C.C. 1816. The other chest with eroded (possibly C18) indecipherable lid but surmounted by tall square-on-plan classical style chest with chamfered plinth, chamfered base with fielded dado panels with concave corners, tall panels over with incised key pattern and corner pilasters supporting pedimented cornice with inverted cup lid finial within. Incised inscription on east side to Thomas Gillet Esq. died 1850 aged 87.
