Description
The Church of Saint Morvah is a parish church that was rebuilt in 1828, incorporating masonry from the 15th century and earlier church on the same site. It is constructed of granite rubble with granite dressings and has an asbestos slate roof with gable ends. The church has a rectangular aisle-less plan with a tower at the middle of the west end and a south porch.
The exterior features a two-stage embattled west tower, a steep-arched west doorway with a four-centred arched head that has inverted arch stones, and a cusped two-light traceried window above the doorway. There are Y-traceried two-light windows with slate louvred lights in the upper stage. The porch has a reused four-centred arched doorway, and there is a pointed doorway on the north side. The remaining windows are in a 19th-century traceried Gothic style.
Inside, the church has a simple design with an original boarded ribbed barrel ceiling, a granite floor, and plastered walls. The furnishings include an octagonal granite front, a polygonal pulpit with a blind cusped arcade, and oak pews. A commemorative plaque on the west wall notes the rebuilding of 1828 and is inscribed to Rev. William Tremenheere, Vicar of Madron, Rev. C V Le Grice, and church wardens Jn E. Sandry and WD Lawrey.
